Hey everyone, Creative Lead Chris Mahon here. Big news—we’re going to be launching a Kickstarter campaign for Black Heaven: A Necromantic Dating Sim on April 30^th 2021!

The full game is planned to be 15 hours long, with multiple romance routes* & endings! Currently, we’re planning to offer solely digital copies to backers, as well as create a small ARG (alternate reality game) that select backers can unlock while they wait for the game to be released!

Why Is This Project Special?

When I started work on Black Heaven, a game about romancing ghosts in the aftermath of an apocalyptic plague, I didn’t expect a real-life pandemic to spread across the world. Now, the themes of isolation, loneliness, nostalgia, and longing for human connection have become a lot of people’s day-to-day experience. It’s pretty surreal.

This is a game about ghosts, memories, and rapidly unraveling sanity, so one of the key features will be “Fractal Madness”: if a player tries to repeatedly reload a save file to change their actions, the narrative may be altered in unexpected and disturbing ways. Did reality change, or were your memories wrong?

Apart from that, Black Heaven is meant to be a deep dive into the dark corners of the human heart that are too terrifying, painful, and universal to ignore. It’s an exploration of the darker side of love, as well as what it means to be human.

Why You Should Tell People About This

To get this whole project started, I spent a couple thousand dollars out of my own pocket, because fuck, if you have the chance to make a cool video game, you make a cool video game. This is a labor of love, but I can’t do it alone.

I need your help to fund this thing!

If Black Heaven meets its minimum funding goal on Kickstarter, we’re gonna have enough to make a solid visual novel. But the more Stretch Goals we hit, the better it’s going to get—that means:

• More fully illustrated CGs!
• More character costumes and expressions!
• More art for non-main characters!
• More beautiful backgrounds!
• More haunting, lo-fi-inspired music!
